S8 Racing was founded in 2005 by Jim Thornsby and his son-in-law, Alex Short, who turned their passion for karting into a family business. Jim, a racer in the 1960s, then introduced his daughter to racing, Danielle, an accomplished racer herself. She competed against Alex before then marrying him. Alex and Jim went on to form S8 Racing, built on the family expertise.
Fuelled by family
Starting in Jim’s Sheffield garage with two drivers, the team expanded after a successful first season, adding talents like Sam Clegg, who won two Junior Max Club Championships. By 2009, they moved to a larger facility. S8 Racing became well known for their expertise with top tier karts. This knowledge has now bought about a very special partnership with TB Karts, an established, leading, Italian karting manufacturer with roots in the early 20th century. S8 Racing is a major importer of their equipment.
